Andreas Terlaak (April 18, 1976) is a Dutch freelance photographer specializing in concert and portrait photography. His work appears in national and international media and has been awarded the Silver Camera multiple times. Since 2005, Terlaak has been photographing national and international musicians and public figures for NRC.
In 2005, Terlaak's first photo appeared in NRC. Since 2007, he has been affiliated with the newspaper as a freelancer, for which he initially documented concerts and festivals. Later, his portfolio of assignments expanded to include portrait photography for the various sections.
In his first year as a freelancer, Terlaak received a first prize at the Zilveren Camera for a photo of Amy Winehouse, taken during her late-night concert on February 8, 2007, at Paradiso.
Between 2008 and 2018, Terlaak worked as a tour photographer for Neil Diamond, documenting multiple European tours.
Terlaak photographed two late-night concerts for Prince that the artist gave at Paradiso on August 11, 2013.
Since 2015, Terlaak has worked for concert promoter MOJO Concerts as a concert photographer in large concert halls and stadiums throughout the Netherlands.
Since 2018, Terlaak has documented all performances of the Rotterdam dance company Conny Janssen Danst. In 2019, Terlaak began photographing Formula 1 races, initially accompanied by Formula 1 photographer Peter van Egmond.
Over the past 25 years, Terlaak has worked for a wide range of media and companies, including Het Nationale Theater, HP/De Tijd, Hitkrant, Vrij Magazine, Luister, Jazzism, Slagwerkkrant, Gitarist, MuziekNL, and Nieuwe Revu. He created concert recordings, album covers, and press photos for artists such as Prince, Neil Diamond, Avishai Cohen, Katie Melua, Marco Borsato, Guus Meeuwis, and Blaudzun.
Life and Background
Terlaak was born in Rotterdam and grew up in Hazerswoude-dorp. He spent a large part of his childhood in Gabon (West Africa) and Jakarta (Indonesia), where he attended the Jakarta International School from 1988 to 1994.Career
After completing his higher professional education in Audio Visual Productions in Sittard (1995–1999), Terlaak focused on concert photography. He took his first concert photo in 2001 at Bevrijdingspop in Haarlem.In 2005, Terlaak's first photo appeared in NRC.
